Purging Compounds can Improve Blow Molding Operations
One of the biggest challenges extrusion blow molders face is contamination. Solving the problem of contamination between runs starts with acknowledging that production resins are not optimal for cleaning blow molding machines, and that using them in this way is in fact wasteful, time-consuming, and ineffective. Judicious use of compounds designed for purging blow molding equipment can reduce waste and production time, saving tens of thousands of dollars per year for many blow molding plants.  The top pointer - avoid using your standard blow molding resin for purging.  While it is very easy to merely run your production resin through the machine - that resin is not optimized to remove build-up requiring long purge times.  Most of the tips provided point to the use of appropriate purge compounds to reduce waste, time and cost using appropriate purge compounds.  The central theme of the article is clearly to work smarter and not harder, use appropriate purge compounds for blow molding.
