Essentium’s new high speed extrusion saves electronics fixtures 99% of their costs
VIRTEX typically uses traditional manufacturing processes to create custom fittings for circuit boards and electronics housed in plastic enclosures, but such procedures would have become unsustainable if the company tried to scale up production. To get over these constraints, the company turned to Essentium, which used their HSE 3D printing technology to create the fittings. Working with Essentium, VIRTEX claims to have cut the cost of creating the fixtures by 99 percent and cut the component lead time by over two weeks.
The HSE platform was originally introduced by Essentium in 2018, with the goal of overcoming the speed and strength limitations of standard FDM/FFF 3D printers. The business began ramping up manufacturing of the platform the following year, building on existing partnerships with key industry participants including BASF and software vendor Materialise. Since then, the three firms have collaborated to enhance high-speed additive manufacturing and develop an open-model for the technology.
