battenfeld-cincinnati's Extrusion Technology Enables Die with World's Largest Melt Gap
battenfeld-cincinnati's Extrusion Technology Enables Die with World's Largest Melt Gap
Several years ago battenfeld-cincinnati developed the fast dimension change (FDC) system which solved the problem of having to change out dies when producing a different diameter pipe. With the push of a button, the manufacturer is able to switch between different pipe diameters. The system, until recently, was marketed for maximum diameters from 15.7 to 24.8 inches. But now the system is being used by San Luis Potosí, Mexico-based Policonductos SA de CV to extrude pipes up to 63 inches (1,600 mm). The die used on the extrusion line has the largest melt gap ever produced, allowing Policonductos to extrude varying pipe diameters on the same line without having to convert to a new die each time. Policonductos extrudes HDPE pipes for use in mining, sewage, and water supply applications.
